Silakhuyo: Perlas ng Silanganan

Gawa nina Maxine M. Sison at Anika O. Leonor

Growing up, we always noticed that the standard of beauty for women in media was to have shiny long hair and white skin. Now that we're older, we came to terms that not a lot of Filipinas can exactly meet those standards including ourselves. And they should not be obligated to either.

The Filipina depicted in the piece has baby hairs and split ends that we somehow can never manage to get rid of. She's originally supposed to wear a piña blouse only this one's the color of her background. And she's proud of the color of her skin and body she was blessed with. Everybody deserves to look in the mirror and be able to tell themselves they are more than enough. And being proud of who we are is something everyone should strive for.
